Nikon d40 problem.error message?

It was working today but all of a sudden it stopped. Its 4 years old. Nikon d40.Im careful with it. I did mirror lock up to clean it and noticed where the senor is its blocked by black flaps. Or something of that sort. Its part of the camera. Not sure why honestly. What do I do? If I have to send it in how much will it be.

It comes up saying. Error press shutter release again.

That's called the shutter. That's what opens and closes to let light reach the sensor

So did you press the shutter again? If so, what happened.

Who knows what it'll cost if it needs repair. These cameras are engineered to last 100, 000
shutter count so if you've shot that many photos in 4-years the camera could be at the end
of its life span. But, call Nikon and discuss with them.
