I've recently got into photography so I'm still not sure how my camera really works basically I've had my camera for about 2 months and it's was perfect all of a sudden out of nowhere the autofocus isn't working, not really a huge problem but still a pain anyone know what could be wrong? Any answers Would be appreciated

Check that the lens control is set to AF, and the lens is fully seated.

Could be lots of things. The twisty dial can sometimes means you choose manual mode where autofocus might be ignored, and that also depends on what the lens is as it may have manual focus options. Also lens motor could be faulty. Or again mode on twisty dial does not match focussing choices made. http://imaging.nikon.com/...0/spec.htm perhaps just taking the lens off then putting it back on again will cure it, make sure its OFF when you do this.

Check to make sure that the lens contacts aren't dirty. Clean with a micro fiber cloth.
Check to make sure that the body or lens is not in manual focus.

There's a custom function that turns the AF system off at the shutter button and on at a rear AF button. It could be on. This is one of the first changes that most people make. If you have not done so, I highly encourage you to flip the AF from the shutter button to the rear AF button. This allows you to focus compose and take the shot immediately without having to worry about the lens refocusing each time you press the shutter button. It's great for off-center subjects where pressing the shutter button would cause the lens to focus on the background. It also means that you've eliminated a good deal of lag time between pressing the button and taking the shot because the lens doesn't have to focus over and over.

Autofocus will not work if the AF/MF switch is set to MF. It will also not work if the subject is no distinctive contrast from the background like when light is low. AF will fail if you successfully broke the AF motor by forcing to focus manually when AF is set on.
