Autofocus in video mode on nikon d3200 not working

So I have a nikon d3200 and I have the 18-55mm kit lens, I can use autofocus on photos but not in video mode… How can I fix this?

By default, the D3200 doesn't AF during recording, but you can always trigger an AF cycle by half-pressing the shutter button
Single-shot or full-time servo AF (AF-F) for continuous AF during recording
Focus motor noise with kit lens is very audible in sound track, so probably best not to select continuous AF when using it. Other Nikon lenses with silent focus motors would likely be better.
AF area mode options:
Face-priority AF
Wide-area AF
Normal-area AF
Subject-tracking AF (Half-press shutter button to AF before recording, then hit OK button with subject centered in little green square. Square will follow subject around the frame, maintaining focus on it.)
Manual focus is also available during movie recording

If you don't want to focus manually then about the only thing you can do is upgrade to a model with full time in video auto-focus.
My Canon 70D does it so I'm sure there's a Nikon model that has the feature.

I have a simple solution. Never use auto focus for video. This works ok when you are shooting with a smaller sensor camcorder but when you shoot with a larger sensor camera like a DSLR it is not as good because the depth of field is more shallow for focus. Get used to working with manual focus on video. It is tough at first but I have gotten good at nailing focus just off the LCD with DSLR's. Another solution is to get a cheap monitor with focus peaking and attach it to the hot shoe of the camera. This will help with manual focusing. As the previous poster mentioned auto focus on these cameras, if it works well at all, creates a lot of motor noise that will ruin in camera audio as well. There are some lenses that have "stepping motors" that eliminate this noise but most lenses do not have this feature.
