Nikon d31000 video settings?
So I have a Nikon D3100, and I film videos on it for youtube. The videos consist of me sitting on my bed talking. However, the camera quality is not very good, and I know it can be better, but I don't the settings… Please help.
Read the manual.
The chances are that the video capability is simply auto everything, and you already have the best quality you can get.
This is why a DSLR is the wrong tool for video.
Chances are you're badly lit - google 3 point lighting.
The camera quality is fine. You just have to 1) Add more light so that the camera does NOT have to use a high ISO and 2) use an external sound recorder to produce pristine sound.
In post you can then sync the recorded sound with the video
The ONLY settings you have control over are the frame rate, white balance and lens aperture.
Your lighting is probably very bad if you are simply sitting on your bed with normal room lighting. Second, make sure you are uploading your videos in 1080p HD quality, assuming you are shooting in that resolution. Third, make sure you are actually viewing your video on YouTube in 1080p HD quality (click the little "gear" icon on the bottom of the screen). Any one of these issues could cause your videos to appear in poor quality.
I would bet that your problem is lack of light. The lower the light level the more the camera has to compensate to get a well exposed video. The more the camera has to compensate the more the video quality is degraded.
You need to add light: choose a time of day when the sun is streaming in through the window or if that is not an option get some strong artificial lighting.
It's called light. You need more.
Set to video mode. Press the button to start shooting, press again to stop. As far as I know, no video settings whatsoever. It's a digital camera, not a camcorder.
