I own the Nikon 18-200mm lens and I'm quite pleased with it.
I have the same lens Vintage Music has. I use it to shoot motocross events.
There's a new 18-300 mm lens that was just released if you need or want that extra reach

For general purpose usage the two widest range Nikon zooms are the 18-200mm and the new 18-300mm lens. Both are excellent general purpose lenses for walk around purposes, though both tend to have issues close to the two extremes. The 18-200 is cheaper than the 18-300 as it is an older lens though according to reviews I have read the 18-300 tends to be superior optically across the range so the extra money is worth it. Both have variable apertures depending on zoom focal point, both while excellent zoom lenses are not going to be as sharp as their professional zooms which have far more restricted zoom ranges and are also much more expensive.
