Hi! I'm 16 and i'm planning to buy my own DSLR camera. I currently have my Sony point and shoot cam. But i really want to have a DSLR, and my first choice is the Nikon D3100. I'm a newbie, is this DSLR for me? What are its advantages and disadvantages? All answers will be deeply appreciated!

First thing to do, research the camera and compare it to others. Does it have what you want? Is it in your price range? Can you afford the lenses that are compatible with it? Go into a store that has it, Wal-Mart or Target may even have displays, and see if it holds nicely in your hands. Play with the controls and see if your comfortable with the interface. Take a look at other cameras also. See if they fit better if the Nikon doesn't. A dSLR camera just isn't a spur of the moment buy, you'll need to know what it can do, and knowing a bit about photography wouldn't hurt either.

The d3100 is designed for people like you. Go and handle it in a shop and see whatg you think

Of course it's for you. D3100 is meant for beginners that are new to DSLRs (obvious heh) and it's great.
