Nikon D3100 for first time camera?

I can get it in a bundle with an extra lens, 8 GB mem.card, and a case.

For a first time dSLR id say yes one of the best entry level SLRs but do you need an slr ask yourself that.alot of people believe that you need a camera like this to get a good photo, which isn't always the case.
