Yes. Thats a good camera. In fact, all nikon cameras are very good. The D3100 camera is a good choice, but I own the Nikon D5100 which is much better. The D5100 has a better lens as well as stabilizer and zoom.

Spend some time on the Nikon website looking at the features of the D3100, D3200 and D5100.It may be that the D3200 could be a better choice if you intend to shoot video.
