OK. I know nothing about camcorders or these type of cameras. I'm considering purchasing this one. Is this a good choice and I also wanted to know how or if I would be able to use the video clips from the camcorder and put it on a DVD?

Most digital cameras and camcorders nowadays can shoot video that you can put to a DVD. The D3100 however is not a camcorder. DSLR's were never meant to do video. The right tool is a digital camcorder.

Although some dSLR's can record video, they have limited recording times (about 15 minutes or so only) and focus is always an issue even autofocus is available. Some people use a dSLR camera to do video for certain specific reasons. If you don't know what they are you are better off getting a cheaper but real digital camcorder like the Sony Handycam.

I own this camera and use it mainly for it's video purposes. This is a great camera that can shoot at up to 1080p but only for a limited time. The maximum amount of time that you can record for is 10 minutes which is one (and basically it's only) downside. These are great for people who are just getting into shooting video with a camera, as well as taking great photos. I highly recommend that you purchase this as an entry-level camera.

As for burning the videos onto a DVD, the videos that your produce can be burned onto a DVD. This answer would vary based on the editing program that you use, but every camera films in a standard video format which many DVD-R's support.

The D3100 is not a camcorder. It is a stills camera that can take video.
If you want it purely for video the buy a dedicated camcorder. It will be cheaper and give better results.
