Nikon D3000 Reviews?

I'm thinking of buying a Nikon D3000 camera, just to start out with. I've never had a DSLR camera before, and the reviews on the website said this was a good one to start out with.

If you have one, could you tell me how you like it? Maybe the pros and cons of it?

I would rather recommend a camera that I own that's very similar to this, the Canon Rebel XS.
It's an excellent "beginner" camera.

There are some differences between Canon and Nikon in this regard. One of them is that all the Canon lenses have the focus motor in the lens - I think you'll find that on some models at least, Nikon has them in the camera body… That's only one difference.

you might want to look over the XS and compare it to the 3000.

Actually the D3000 was replaced by the D3100, a much more advanced camera.

While the D3000 was a good upgrade from the D40, the new D3100 is really the camera you will be happiest using

At the current price points, get a D3100. Not that much more money but a vastly superior camera. Same goes for canon, the XS is really ancient, the T3 is getting affordable.

I'm sure Jim will be along to beat his canon drum again. Don't listen, go to a shop, handle cameras, see which one feels and works best for you.

I have two friends who own D3000 and I tried both. Personally, I still prefer my older D40 than the D3000. Ken Rockwell is right about the poor low light performance of the D3000.

Go for the D3100 as advised by the other answerers.
