Nikkor f/1.8G - is it a good lens?

I use a Nikon D40.
I want to buy a lens that can make my pictures bright, with sharp objects good bokeh and so on. I found out about Nikkor f/1.8G and became very interested in it. I've heard it's a very good Lens. I just wonder if anyone has used this lense and if it was good? Is it worth to buy a 1.4G, or is 1.8G enough? Is there a big difference?
Also, does the D40 has a built in APS?

1.8, what? 50mm… 35mm? They are all great lenses, especially for the price. I started out with the 50mm f/1.8, super happy with it. Great portrait lens. Just upgraded to the 50mm f/1.4 a few months ago. Depends how serious you are whether or not spending the extra $$ is right for you.
The 50mm 1.8 is a fantastic lens here are some shots of mine with it on my d90~
My new 50mm f/1.4~
Not a super huge difference to some people, but a big difference to me.

Yes it is! I have it and it hardly ever leaves my camera.difference between the 1.4 and 1.8 is very minimal for the price difference. I would stick with the 1.8; gives very nice bokeh and lets a lot of light in.
i made a video with the 50mm f/1.8 (w/ a D5000) recently here, which you can view and vote for (i'd be very appreciative if you did!) so i can win a scholarship to go to school to study photography! Please and thank you so much ^^ http://contest.joefoss.com/entry/200273
