I was thinking to buy Nikon D7000 with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR… But someone told me that its not a good lens not sharp etc. Is it true should i buy that camera with this lens (i don't want to upgrade camera or lens after i bought) … As not as career Just for passion

Please suggest.

The lens is a fine lens, however you may want to buy the 18-200 mm VR as a single lens solution.

the extra reach from 105 mm to 200 mm can make a huge difference without having to add a second lens.

Sample using this 18-200 mm lens. This was from an assignment to shoot a mock crash two days before a high school prom

This is a good example of the versatility of this lens and the quality of the VR scheme to keep the camera/lens movement at longer shutter speeds stable.

Depends quite a bit on your use. This is a good lens and most casual photographers are very happy with it. I had it for a while and was quite pleased. It has great range, it very light weight and (I think) produces very nice images. You will hear some complaints about this lens because the optics are not as high quality as the more expensive lenses… But, that's always the balance when you're talking price and quality. For the price, this is a very good lens.

Some will also complain about the lack of a metal mount. Again, this is consumer grade, not professional and they are trying to balance price and quality. It does mean, however, you should be more careful when using lenses with plastic mounts.

Again, personally, I have preferred the 18-55mm with a 70-200mm and a 50mm fixed but that's because of how and what I shoot. Think carefully about what type of shooting you will be doing. This lens fits a wide range but it won't bring you up close at a football game or give you the brilliance of a 50mm fixed f1.4 when doing portraits.

My experience with Nikon products (which is what I'm using now) has been very good in everything I've used. The biggest key with your setup (the camera body is VERY good) is learning your camera and lens combo intimately. Too many casual photographers are too casual… They never get the camera off "Auto". This camera and this lens will server you very well if you get off auto settings and start using the manual modes, learing the strengths and weaknesses of both the camera and lens. Do that and you will have exceptional pictures! Of course, that assuming you have an eye for a good picture!

I reckon you're looking at a D90. If you are buying a D90, then get this lens as the kit for it. It's a smashing lens, I like it. Whilst the 18-200 is ok, I think it's a bit bulky for day to day use. The 18-105 is super value as a kit, especially compared to the 18-55s most lower-end DSLRs come with.

The sharpness issue is nonsense, so long as you use an appropriate shutter speed.

Yeah it's a great lens:-)

Pretty much all Nikkor lens' are great, they are pretty much the top brand for lens'

Someone said that you might want to buy an 18-200mm lens. I'd second this, unless you want to save money, cos it's not a cheap lens

On the other hand, if you've got a D7000, I doubt money is much of an issue for you, since it's hardly a cheap camera.

Fact is, no matter which lens you get, it'll probably be the same quality of photo, even though the lens is everything. It's actually difficult to find a bad quality lens. And the cheap 18-55mm lens' that comes with budget camera's such as the D40, D60 and D3000 is very high quality, so the 18-105 lens will be fine:-)
