New Nikon D90 Body Coming Soon?

Does anyone have any idea about when a new Nikon D90 is coming out, what features it might include and how much it will sell for?
I'm looking to upgrade my D40x for college and I'd rather not waste my money if a new one is in the works.

First of all, I doubt if you would waste your money. At today's prices the D90 is a very interesting step up from your D40x. It's likely to become a bit cheaper still when everyone starts clearing stocks.

Having said that, there are strong indications that a successor, called a D7000 is going to be released sometime in the next two weeks. Personally I expect to see some significant updates on the video side, another stop of usable iso, a slight update in the megapixels to 14 perhaps 16 and slightly more dynamic range.

Introduction price, $999 body only would not surprise me with a flurry of kits including 18-55 VR, 18-105VR and 55-300 VR and even 70-300 Vr and of course the 18-200 VR

A D90 replacement will likely be announced at the Photokina trade show later this month. These rumors - and that's all they are - are partly fueled by the fact that it's getting hard to find a place that still stocks the D90.

Loads of speculation about possible specifications: http://nikonrumors.com/category/nikon-d7000

Keep an eye on Nikon's website. Or for all the goodies at the Photokina trade show and camera stuff in general, bookmark this page: http://www.dpreview.com/...review.com

As for buying advice - wait at your own peril. If the D90 does get updated you'd normally have 2 great choices:
* Buy the new model at an inflated introduction price, or
* Strike a good deal on an old D90 as stores try to unload remaining inventory.

The problem is that the D90 inventory already has been mostly depleted.
