I have been doing research night after night even sometimes not going to sleep because i've been trying to decide which lenses i want to get for my newly purchased Nikon D3100 and i think i've boiled it down to 2. The first one i would like to purchase is the (769$) Tamron 70-200 2.8 i really like this lens because it has GREAT IQ and its proven to be really sharp at 2.8 and above compared to the Sigma version… The only thing bad about this lens is the poor auto focus which i think i can get used to. The next lens that i want to get is the (400$) Tamron 17-50 2.8 non vc for the main daily walk around lens because this lens is really sharp as well and it pretty much is a good upgrade to the kit lens for low light situations being it is a 2.8… These are just my pics feel free to recommend something else around the same price

Also i like to shoot a wide range of photography such as landscapes, portraits, some action (not really a biggie), some macro as well so i'm thinking this combo would be perfect for me for around right at 1000$ and i think i can do with out VC since the price difference is usually huge. I will be joining the navy in 2 months and as soon as i get out of basic training i wanna blog my experience and wanna have good images while doing it. Any advice is welcome Thanks

Before you venture into those sexy looking telephoto lenses you should get a good 50mm prime lens. The Nikon f1.8 50mm is a very good "normal" lens & you'll be thrilled with the shots you can get with the extra light it gives you. Best of all it only costs a bit over $100.

There are only two lens manufacturers that I will purchase for my Nikon:
Nikkor
Tokina
