Good entry level DSLR camera?

I was looking at Nikon mostly, but if you have some suggestions for Cannon I would appreciate it.
I'm more interested in the Nikon D5000** and D3100
If you have experience with the cameras, jot them down also.

The Nikon D3100 has the most bang for the buck of the two, actually of any entry level dSLR.

Take a look at the Pentax Kx - the only low priced DSLR to have HD video, a choice of colours and many other features that put it high up the ranks.

The D3100 is better than the D5000, 14 vs 12MP (But same image quality!), it has a higher ISO range and less noise at ISO 800+, better video features with continuous AF while recording videos and is lighter.
I also recommend Canon EOS T2i, but it's more expensive. The D3100 is best at its price!

Good luck! The site has many more tutorials, tips, reviews and guides!
