Moving up in Photography?

Jake

I've been taking part in the hobby of Photography for at least a year when I got a Nikon D40 on a deal ($100) which I currently still have… Lately Canons have caught my eye and I was wondering if it'd be a good move to move on from my D40 into the Canons? I currently have three lens and a speedlight with my D40, 1.4 lens, 55 - 200m lens, 18-55AF lens, If I was to package and sell all this would I be able to advance onto a Canon EOS 5D Mark III?

LOL

It is sort of funny that now that Nikon has started producing some amazing sensors that "Canon has caught your eye"

Take a look at the Canon 5D, Mark III and Nikon D800 sensor performance and what they each cost.

As you can see, Nikon has a brand new technology in not only sensors but if you read the specifications, the auto-focus and metering systems have been enhanced.

If you really have the skills to use such an advanced camera and the budget, you may want to spend more time doing your research. You have been using Nikon's. Usually switching camera systems is a bad idea, but this may be the worst time to move from Nikon to Canon system

You want to go from an entry level, older dSLR in one make to a pro level, current generation dSLR in another make. Go for it. Just be ready to spend several $1, 000 to do it.

Unless there's a reason you want to get out of the Nikon family, upgrade your body and keep the lenses.

Canon, Nikon, Sony… It doesn;t matter. I'd recommend you stay in whatever brand you currently are in. Personally I shoot Canon but I'll shoot with whatever you put in my hands… Even an Olympus… The camera is just a tool to capture light and, no matter what Fhotoace says, performance from the various brands with cameras of comparable levels is Almost identical (yes, even Olympus).

Would you be able to sell you current kit and get a 5DMkIII… No. The 5DMkIII is what… 3500$ … I wouldn't pay more than 300$ for you kit so you. Still have 3200$ to be able to get JUST the BODY of a 5DMkIII. Stick with what you have, if you want a new body, buy a Nion one and then you D40 can serve as a backup AND all your lenses and other doodads will still be useful.
