Best Nikon Lens for Car Photography? And for photographing moving cars?
The one that is on your camera.
Stupid thumb downer… You can't take photos without a lens and any will do, all depends on what you want.
There isn't really a "best" lens to use except for the one that best allows you to express your vision.
Typically if you're going to photograph a car for catalog work, the art director or photo editor will give you specific parameter on allowable focal length. You'll typically find that they will want you to use a focal length between 100-200mm. This will flatten the look of the car as opposed to using wide-angle lenses which will stretch the look, making the cars look strange. It also adds for continuity among all the images that they get from multiple photographers.
If you're going to a car show, use a wide angle and concentrate on close up detail shots. Photographing the entire length of cars at shows is very difficult because of all of the reflections from the people and other cars showing in the paint. This really ruins the image. With close up detail shots, you can concentrate on the details of what makes the design of the car sing. This also allows you to have a better hand on dealing with reflections.
Use a circular polarizing filter to remove or reduce glare and/or reflections.
