Macro Lenses for Nikon D5100?

Matthew
Matthew

I bought a Nikon D5100 dSLR the other day and I'm thrilled with it.

I was wondering-- can anyone recommend a good macro (close-up) lens for the D5100? In particular, due to limited budget, I'm looking for something under $200.

The Nikkor AF-S 60 mm f/2.8 or AF-S 105 mm f/2.8 are the best two for your needs, but where did you get the idea that they cost less than $200?

The 60 mm costs $600 and the 105 mm costs $985.

It seems you will be saving your pennies for a while longer

With the 40mm Micro Nikkor your budget is only $77 short of reality.

This is reputed to be a very sharp macro lens. One disadvantage is that the working distance is very short.

You should be able to get a used Micro Nikkor manual focus 105mm f/4 or a 60mm f/2.8 within your budget off ebay. They will not have auto focus but that's not a big deal with macro, just move the camera or focus manually. You may have to do a bit of trial and error with exposure as you will not be able to meter with those lenses (it's easier than it sounds) but they are within your budget and are great macro lenses.
