Lenses for Nikon D3000?

Currently I have a standard 18-55mm lense for my camera. I'm looking to purchase another one but do not know what range of lenses are available. Are there certain types that are not compatible with the D3000? I'm aware that you are supposed to choose a lense on the type of photography you want to improve on. Mainly I want to do landscape photography but am just interested in the range of compatible lenses on offer.

Have a look here - http://amzn.to/....to/i5BRHl they have a wide range of d3000 lenses, just type d3000 lense into product search.

If you're doing landscapes you'll need a decent wide angle. I recommend the Sigma 10-20mm:

How much are you willing to spend?

The least expensive ultra-wide option is the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6.It does the job pretty well as you're almost always going to be stopped down and on a tripod. This lens has been on the market for donkeys years, and it's pretty well proven and popular.

You could get a Nikon 10-24 if you wanted something a little better built, and with better compatibility on future Nikon products. But I feel that for now that's not totally necessary.

Tokina make the 11-16mm, also an ultra-wide lens, which is very highly rated.

The other thing that you'll find is sometimes a good telephoto lens is useful in landscape photography. It's used for when you're picking out a small section of a scene to photograph. Here the ideal range you're looking for is between 70 and 200mm. Since all the Nikon 70-200's are stupidly expensive you should look at the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G IF-ED VR it's important that you get the IF-ED version which is the superior lens.

There are certain Nikon lenses that won't autofocus with the D3000, in fact only those marked AF-S (Nikon) or HSM (Sigma) will autofocus. However, you can still use other lenses (ie just marked AF) but you'll have to manually focus them - no big deal.

If you're looking to do landscapes, a wide angle will help to add drama to a landscape. The classic Nikon wide angle is the 12-24mm which costs nearly £800 - it's AF-S which will autofocus on your camera. The cheaper 10-24mm is also AF-S and at around £600 is a fair bit cheaper.

Alternatively consider something like the Sigma 10-20mm - there's a fixed max aperture version for around £450 or a variable max aperture version for under £400. Both are HSM lenses so will autofocus on the D3000. I have the variable aperture version with a D300 & its a cracking lens.
