JPEG FINE 8-bit S (1504x1000) print size?
What is the largest print you can make with the above size?
Photos taken with a 6MP Nikon D40 SLR.
Added (1). Behrad,
What is A3?
I would think 11x14 might be safe. I made some pretty good prints from my 5mp at 8x10 when I had it a few years ago.
I would not make it any larger than an A3.
Up to that, it should be fine.
That depends on several factors. First what is your process for the enlargement? Are you using Photoshop or a plug in like Genuine Fractals or Alien Skin? Secondly, what is the intended viewing distance of the image? For what is called walk up resolution where you can walk right up to the image and see details… You will need more resolution which you do not have. For the mega pixels you have with the right software you could get poster sized images. In addition, once you have the image sized as you would like you may want to sharpen it based off the way it will be printed. Different print methods have different results so knowing the printer helps. NIK Software has a plug in that is helpful with this called Sharpener Pro.
All that aside the above mentioned stiff is more for high end prints and quality where your camera, color-space, output and so on are all calibrated to match your monitor which is calibrated. For the average run of the meal stuff you can enlarge pretty well and print well up to near a poster size with that if done correctly. Scott Kelby has a technique he borrowed that allows you to enlarge almost as god as plug-in software… Google it and you may find it.
