Is the nikon sb-600 speedlight flash worth it?

I recently bought the Nikon D3000, and I'm wondering if it is worth the investment?

Yeah, it's definitely worth it. You might also want to get a flash cable (hotshoe to hotshoe) so you can mount the flash off camera, or an IR remote

If your an auto shooter its ok,

if you know manual flash operation then they are a rip off

Yes.It';s a lot more flash than the sb-400.IT communicates so well with the camera that decent flash will be not much of a challenge.

Depends.

On a D3000 you can't use one of its most important features, Nikon CLS. That would otherwise allow you to use it as a wirelessly controlled TTL flash without any additional hardware if you have a camera body that supports CLS (D90 and upwards).

Otherwise, as far as i know, you can get off camera TTL only with a cord, or perhaps some really expensive wireless hardware. The cheap wireless transmitters that can be bought as accessories can merely trigger the flash.

So if you intend to upgrade your camera body at some time in the future, then the SB-600 is a more future-proof investment.

If you're fine with TTL working only with the flash mounted on the camera or with a cord, and wireless operation happening only in manual mode, then you can get a cheaper one… Some cheaper ones are also more powerful than the SB-600, which is somewhat weak in terms of its guide number.

Yes if that will be your only additional light. No if you plan to use studio lights.

Yes its a good one Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash
Bought it for my D40 and it really improves indoor and low light photography among other things. This is the first speedlight I have ever purchased, but it has already been six months since I purchased it and it has not ever failed.
