Is the Nikon d90 worth the $960.95?

I really like this camera and i found it for $960.95 dollars on B&H photo and video. I was wondering if any of you have experience with B&H, and do you think this is a reasonable price for this camera? Would you recommend a cheaper camera?

I definitely recommend the D90. Other similar SLR cameras are in that price range.
It depends on what/how often you'll be using the camera though.

Make sure it is NOT gray market…
.
It is not 'bad' to sell "gray market" items as long as the buyer knows it has NO US warrenty…
.
Now, is it worth $960?
.
Is gold worth $1500 - a ounce!

I own a Canon XTi and am mostly happy with it. You will roughly spend this amount on whatever dslr you buy.

If you are extraordinarily budget conscious, you've picked the wrong hobby.

You really asked two questions.

The first is about B+H. Yes, it is an extremely reputable outfit.

The second is whether the D90 is worth the price that it demands. That's really a judgment call, and everyone will have a different answer.

About a year ago I made a snap decision to buy my first DSLR. I'm a long-time Nikon user in the 35mm format and have a two Nikon SLRs and a bunch of lenses, so it made sense for me to stick with Nikon. I was looking to decide between the D5000 and the D90. The two are essentially equivalent in terms of functionality (if there are functional differences, they are features that I probably would never use). The D5000 offers the articulated LCD screen, while the screen on the D90 is fixed. The difference that justifies the price increment is that the D90 is designed as an auxiliary camera for professionals, while the D5000 is designed for amateurs, which means that the D90 is designed with the expectation that the user will be making many more exposures during the life expectancy of the camera than will be the case with the D5000. That's called 'duty cycle'.In my case, I concluded that my needs would be satisfied with the D5000.

Only if it comes with a lens…

I'm a bit dubious about spending more than £400 on a camera at my level.

Although I did spend a bit more on Canon 350D once and was very happy with it.

Photography is a nice hobby but I really should be trying to pay off debt, saving up for a rainy day, buying food, clothes and stuff though.

I've put a lot on eBay recently, which will leave me with an Olympus E-420 the cheapest (at new retail prices), and smallest, DSLR in the world.

I will be needing a compact camera though as well, but haven't decided which yet.

The Olympus E-420 was replaced by the E-450 but at the same price point, I recommend that.
