Is the Nikon 55-200mm VR AF-S f/4-5.6G ED compatible with Nikon D3000?
I'm considering buying a Nikon 55-200mm VR AF-S f/4-5.6G ED and my camera is the Nikon D3000. I'm wondering: is this is a good match, how is it compared to the 18-55mm lens, and any other comments about the product would be appreciated as well.
All Nikon lenses with "AF-S" in their name will work perfectly on your camera. Those that only say AF but not AF-S won't autofocus.
That lens is a decent budget telephoto lens. The image quality will be very similar to that of your kit lens.
My only complaint about the 55-200mm is in lower light conditions its not fast enough. If the light is bright, it is great. I probably use my 55-200mm 75% of the time vs other lenses I have. For the price don't pass up it
ANY Nikkor AF-S lens will work on your D3000
The Nikon 55-200mm VR AF-S is a perfect compliment to your kit 18-55mm lens. Fully compatible with your D3000, it will give you much more "reach" to bring distant subjects into view.

Here's a Nikon tool that lets you see what different focal lengths look like on your camera. Choose from 3 different photos and slide the marker at the bottom.

And here's a website that lists all the lenses that autofocus on entry-level Nikons like your own.
