Is the guide mode on the Nikon d3200 helpful/useful?

I'm trying to decide between some entry level DSLRs, should the guide mode on the nikon d3200 be an important factor in my decision making? I'm mostly trying to decide between the Nikon d3200, Nikon d5100 and the Canon Rebel t3i. This will be my first DSLR and I want something I can learn on and use for at least 5 years. I like the filters and artsy modes on the d5100 but I read a comment somewhere that an amateur could get bored with it quickly, do you think this is true? Please don't bring up the megapixel thing, I understand the megapixel myth so it is no longer a factor. Now I'm just wondering if the guide mode should be a deal breaker.

For some, it is a great asset, as you don't have to look in the manual. My son has a D3000 - the first camera with the feature, and I was actually pretty impressed with it. I can see how it might help those just learning.

The artsy stuff, I think for many DSLR owners is all but worthless. I never use any of that stuff with my camera, so it is really not anything I would even bother with. I regard that stuff to be in the domain of compact cameras, and if my DSLR did not have any of those features, I would not be disappointed.

Image quality and capability is what you really want out of a DSLR, and in that regard, of your choices - the D3200 will be hard to beat - especially given the price. And since it is a new camera, it will be current for a few years.

But only you can determine if the Guide mode has value. It did for my son, and I encourage you to go to a camera shop and try it out and see if it might be something you would want to have.

Its a great feature, after you buy the D3200 go to this website and get this DVD. Quickpro Camera guides are great at showing you how to get the most out of your camera, instead of just the black and white words in the manual.

I thought it would be but i don't use it at all. You should get a camera that isn't too starter because you will learn to use it fast.
