I''m gonna buy my first DSLR i had a confusion btw Canon 600d and D5100 finally i've leaned towards Nikon. Is buying it with a 18-105 lens a good idea?

It's a good range, and is quite affordable (399.99 USD) although the aperture is not at its best.

Since you have the D5100 already, I'm assuming you have a 18-55mm lens. In that case, I think it's best for you to go for the 50mm 1.8G lens (sharp images and very good in low-light conditions[$216]) or the 55-200mm (excellent range, mostly for outdoor sports[$250]).

If that's not the case, then yes, I highly recommend that you go for the 18-105mm.

The 18-105 is a fine lens, range to handle most situations. Optically very decent. Not sure if this is the kit or it would be an extra lens. If it's extra lens then see if you can sell the 18-55, won't need it.

The D5100 is a fine camera.
