Keep it, at least until you can shoot compelling images each time you press the shutter release. This can take years, so you may want to invest in additional lenses if you want to spend money on your camera system

Here are three samples shot using a 6 mp sensored camera.html? Sort=3&o=46.html? Sort=3&o=45.html? Sort=3&o=8

These images have been reduced to 600 x 400 pixels at 72 PPI for posting on the internet.

The full images have much more resolution, 3008 x 2000 pixels at 300 PPI

Maybe worth around $150 or so. Upgrade? Depends on how serious your photography is. If your D-50 is in nice working condition, you can shoot magazine quality photos with it. But you do need to take the time to learn how to use it.
My advice, learn how to use what you already have. After you master it, then upgrade if you feel the need to.

Your "new" Nikon D50 has a 6mp sensor, the same resolution that professional photographers used several year ago. In fact, there are still 6mp cameras in daily use, producing memorable and often stunning images.

The great news about this camera (I had one and gave it to my daughter when she was in college), it that it will autofocus with any Nikon AF lens, unlike the current crop of novice Nikon DSLR's like the D3200 and D5200. That means you have a wider, and more economical range of lenses to use while growing in your photographic skills.

Here's some 55 million photos taken by a Nikon D50, and you'll see that this camera can take you pretty far.
