Is auto-focus possible with the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D lens when using on Nikon D3000?
I'm planning to buy this lens as it seems to be a good value for money, for portrait photography. Though not a killer, having the AF option would be a nice addition.
Most probably not. To be sure, check it out at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...ovideo.com.
It won't autofocus on the D3000 as the D3000 doesn't have a focus motor in the body. Only AF-S and AF-I lenses will autofocus on the D3000. Manual focus on the D3000, and most low end DSLR cameras, is frustrating due to poor focus screen. There's a focus indicator dot in the lower left of the view finder which indicates proper focus.
Consider the 35mm f/1.8 AF-S lens for $200.It's on the short end as a portrait lens, but fine for half to full body shots. Set your kit lens to 35mm and see how you like shooting at that focal length.
