Does the 50mm f/1.8D Nikkor lens Auto focus for the Nikon D3100?
I keep getting mixed answers. Maybe fhotoace will see this question
Short answer: No
the 50mm f/1.8D lens is an AF lens, therefore the camera itself needs an autofocus motor, something the D3100 does not have
for autofocus, you will need to get the 50mm f/1.8G lens- that lens is an AF-S lens, which autofocuses without the need of the AF motor being in the camera.

No, only the AF-S line will autofocus on the D3100, the AF line DOES NOT have an autofocus motor inside the lens, so you won't be able to autofocus.
