I want to get a new lens for my Nikon D3100, any suggestions?
So, I have this 18-55mm lens and I'm sick of it. It broke twice and I already spent almost 150$ in reparations. It's slow, not working like when it was new and I guess I should get something new.
I kind of want a pancake lens, something very open, but at the same time I would like to have some zoom and I can't afford a lens that does both.
Kit lenses are priced exactly for what they are - flimsy plastic. If you've ran through two of them already, you'll need something built a bit better. In photography you get what you pay for, so letting us know what you're willing to pay for a lens would help us answer you better.
If you're budget isn't all that much, I'd consider the new Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM "C".It's getting great reviews - it's built better, focuses faster, wider aperture, and better image quality for only around $450.
I think you have to get a Nikon lens as I have one and it will tell you it has detected a non Nikon lens and won't work. I bought a 18-200mm lens which cost me as much as the camera even secondhand.
