I only have a Nikon D80 with AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor lens?

I'm hoping to get pictures of the Northern Lights. Can I use this lens? If not, what lens should I use? What about settings? I plan to purchase a tripod and remote but should that be a wired or wireless?
Thank you for any recommendations
Added (1). Lens is an 18 - 200mm

Yes but turn the VR off when it's on the tripod and get both and see which one you like better. You can get one that has a timer to take a pic like 1 a minute or such. Or just use the cameras self timer. Use low ISO and use aperture priority and set it to f/11. Or just use landscape mode. You're smart getting a tripod. You should look at the vanguard 263 (or 264) ab100

I don't know exactly what lens you are talking about as you failed to mention the focal length (mm). I imagine anywhere between 28mm to 50mm would do great depending on the foreground. Anyway, if you use a tripod, it won't matter if you use a wired or wireless remote. You can also use the self timer instead.
There are lots of sites in the internet suggesting settings to use in shooting the Northern lights. I can only dream about it for now as I live closer to the equator.

Yes it can, use a tripod and set shutter speed according to your preference. Do some trial shots. And the remote is a good idea.
