I'm planning to get a nikon D5000. Is it a good buy?

I'm a beginner in photography and I heard that it nikon D5000 is good for beginners.
I just wanna make sure that I make the right decision.

I got mine last Christmas when it was around £100 more that it is now… And I'm delighted with it! I spent 4 months trying to figure it all out (I'm a beginner with DSLRs) and it only started to 'click' with me when I took a friend out for a day who knew what he was doing!
I'm a bit disappointed in the video option- it's not HD and can only do a minute or so at a time so don't buy it for this reason. The pictures, though, are fabulous and get better and better as you learn the controls. For example, I didn't realize that a couple of functions have dedicated buttons that save going through menus.
I have, in the past 2 months, started being serious with it and have managed a few shots of the Giant's Causeway that are so good that they were converted to B&W and are now framed on walls!
My friend, a retired professional, declared himself well pleased when I let him borrow it for a day to put it through it's paces.
Go ahead- buy it!

Yes, it's a very nice camera.

Yes it is very good, but the D3100 at same price is even better! Lighter, less noise and better video!
