I just purchased a Nikon D5000 camera. It came with an 18-55mm VR lens?

I would like a lens that will take pictures at night and at football games both day and night. What lens would you recommend?

This one would work well:

Funny guys, very funny.
to complement your 18-55 I suggest the 55-200 which should be adequate

if you wanted more zoom, you would have to take the next step:

Sport picture = freezing motion = Fast lense = expensive & heavy
Here are the reasons why the Nikon D5000 is not suited for that.
1. Not a low light performer. Won't be getting anything more than cellphone quality at night
2. Body is plastic which mean heavier lense will break off if your not careful holding it.

You already have that lens. It's just a matter of knowing how to use it.

After much research online and at various camera shops, I decided on this lens. I have three sons who play baseball, basketball and football. First, I tried it without the auto focus, but figured I liked the lens so much that it was worth the extra money to by the one with the auto focus and I'm so glad I did! Also, takes excellent nature pics.
