There's several nice ones that will help bring the action much closer for you.
For outdoor sports, look at the Nikon 55-300mm AF-S VR.

A faster focusing lens that's highly rated is the 70-300mm AF-S VR.

For lower light, you might look at the Sigma 70-200mm HSM f/2.8, which is much more affordable than the excellent Nikon 70-200mm AF-S VR f/2.8.
