I dropped me nikon d3100

So just now i dropped my nikon d3100 accidently on tile. And the bottom cracked and parts of it chipped off (but not the battery side). I was wondering if there was a free waranty that came with it?
I've had the camera for less than a year (bought it in the summertime)
I tried testing it but when i take a picture, everything is black.
everythign seems to be fine except the body. Please let me know on what i should do and info on the waranty policy D:

Added (2). The strap was there but i was carrying a buncha stuff and i didn't realize it fell. It kinda just happened and i was like wow did that just really happen and i thought everything was ok but then i saw a part of the bottom chip off. And now there's like hole in my camera (cracked) aghhh what should i do?

I don't know their exact warranty policy, but I strongly doubt they cover accidental damage. Most warranties only cover faults that they caused, like a technical bug or flaw in its design when it was new.

Warranties do not cover accidental damage. Should have used the neck strap.

Warranties cover manufacturing defects.
What you needed was an unconditional replacement insurance policy purchased at the time you bought your camera.
What happened, did the camera strap fail?

Warranties never cover carelessness. Some insurances do.
Get it to Nikon and be prepared for a $300-$450 bill.

You can't claim on the manufacturer's warranty as that only covers manufacturing defects not accidents!
Your (or you parents) household insurance policy MAY cover accidental damage to camera gear - you need to check, but there will probably be something to pay in any case (as an excess).
If it's not covered then you are screwed - you'll have to save up & buy a new camera (it's probably not economical to repair it.).
Perhaps this will teach you to make sure the neck strap is always around your neck!

Sorry to hear of your predicament, but the warranty will not cover abuse, which is what they will classify it as.

Warranty does not include product abuse. You should still let Nikon look into it. Just hope repairs will cost less than buying a new one.
If only the case is cracked (shine a flashlight to the hole), try to take a test shot. If the camera works, you may have better chances of saving it.
