Nikon D3100 is supposed to be the top camera for DSLR beginners. I bought one not too long ago and it takes wonderful photos. Easy to use, has a tutorial feature, works like a boss.

And you aren't ready for one if you don't know that the only way to work it out is to handle them and choose the one you like better.

The EOS 350D has long been superceded anyway.

If sensor performance is important to you, look here.

Of course, the D3100 is a much newer camera as well.

Personally, it makes more sense to buy a 350D which should be around £125 second hand these days. Then find your direction in photography, before spending big on specialist gear. That's exactly what I did, I spend a year or so with a 300D, before moving to a 5D/5D mkI and then to a 1Ds mkII, along with stacks of vintage manual lenses.

D3100 is newer so a better choice

It will have more modern things and settings to offer

The 350D is quite old. At least then go for the 600D
