How to sync my remote and Nikon d3100?

I just purchased this Vivitar remote for my Nikon d3100.

I got it today in the mail, but I'm a little confused on how to sync it to my camera. I plugged it in and turned it on, but it won't take the picture. Any ideas?

Which Vivitar remote did you buy?

The Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control costs less than $15 and works just fine with your camera

Plug the cable into the receiver unit then in the camera's gps socket.
Turn on the receiver, switch the slider to "ON" instead of "HOLD".
Turn on the camera.
Then click the remote unit to take a photo.

If it doesn't work, check their batteries. If the LED on the units light up, check to see if the cable is snug. That's pretty much the only things that can go wrong. Unless the unit is dead.
