How to do any length long exposure with nikon d3000?
I have a nikon d3000 and i would like to know how to step by step how to set my camera to and length of time for long exposure.
* Place your camera on a tripod.
* Either set the cameras shutter speed to one of the timed shutter speeds of from one second to thirty seconds. Use the light meter to determine the correct exposure
* If you need to shoot at longer shutter speeds than the timed ones, you can set the shutter to bulb and use a stopwatch to time longer exposures than 30 seconds.
You can use the remote control made for your camera, the ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control, less than $20 if you want to shoot long exposures and make light graffiti
Have you read the owner's manual? Now might be a good time.
Bulb
You will need a tripod.
Exposures up to 30seconds:
- Put camera on tripod
- Switch the camera to S mode and select the shutter speed you want. 1second is represented by 1", 30 second is 30".
-Use the self timer to reduce camera shake.
Exposures beyond 30". You will need a cable release for this:
- Put camera on tripod.
- Switch the camera to M mode and select 30"
- Meter the exposure to see what aperture you need for the desired exposure time.
- Switch to shutter speed of BULB and aperture as metered
- plug in your cable release
- press the cable release and lock.
- unlock the cable release when time is up.
- done.
