How should you go about buying a lens off ebay?

I'll be buying a Nikon 18-200 VR lens for my Nikon D50, but this is the first time I'll ever have bought a lens off ebay. What should I look for? How do I make sure the lens is in good condition? Could use any tips and advice.

Check with the used equipment at B&H Photo or refurbished equipment at Cameta Camera. Both offer warranties and both allow returns. Both sell on eBay, also, but you may not find an 18-200 listed there.

You will certainly find other sellers offering the lens. Just read their description, look at the photos, and check for good feedback. If you are not comfortable with anyone, stick to B&H or Cameta. I have bought used from them both and it always was as good as or better than described. I bought a used lens from B&H that they rated a 9 out of 10 and it is 100% perfect - as good as new.
