Buying a Nikon D5000 on ebay?

So I'm thinking of buying a Nikon D5000. They're reasonably priced on eBay (camera shops here retail them for over $1000). I notice the ones sent from Hong Kong are the cheapest (around $400-$600). Would these be the real deal, or a fake version of the camera?

I would line up a repair service, since Nikon will in all probability NOT repair them under warranty peroid of one year or not!

Ebay is a dumping ground for all things "less than good." I wouldn't trust anyone selling on ebay regardless of product - too many failures.

If you find any product that sells for $1, 000 anywhere in the world except on ebay shouldn't that tell you something? Think about it and then run from ebay.

If the seller has a solid rep then you are most likely going to get a camera. Its impossible to fake a nikon d5000.

The only real drawback here is warranty. In the unlikely event that something does go wrong Nikon in your country will either not touch it or will charge you for any repairs.

A good middle ground solution is to buy from Amazon.com, B&H photo, or Adorama.com and buy a non-gray market D5000 w/18-55mm VR ens for $750.
