How is the Nikon D3100?

Does anyone know if this is a good camera? I want to get a DSLR, and this will be my first one. I hear lots about the Nikon D3100 and I wondered if anyone knew if it was a good quality camera. Also, it comes with a "af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm vr" lens. What are the features of this lens?

Later you can buy a second lens that will shoot the other subjects you find you would like to include. This could be a wide angle lens like the 10-24 mm used for shooting brilliant landscapes or 55-300 mm for shooting sports, action and some wildlife.

So I got mine a couple days ago, & it's a really good camera! I love it, and it's pretty self explanatory if you read the manual, but you'll have to learn all the manual settings somewhere else. If I could go back in time though, I'd probably get the nikon d3000 and get a second lens with it. Because the video (which is good) isn't really necessary, and everything else is pretty similar

It is rated 4.5 start out of 5 on amazon review. So i guess it is a good camera. And based on my research, amazon has the price cheaper than other sites.
