I have been saving up for a camera for 2 years and I have been set on this one, I go to buy it next weekend, but I want to make sure it is perfect after saving up this much money. I'm a very active photography student in high school and plan on taking photo through college, and want to get into film. I'm also active in theatre and have written plays before (which is why I plan on getting the camera that also has HD video). I want this camera to last me a while, do you think it is a good choice? If it is what are some accessories that would be a good idea to buy, because my parents want to get me the extras for the camera for christmas, since i'm purchasing the actual camera.

It is an excellent entry level dSLR.

Like any other dSLR that has a video feature, you will need other special accessories to produce videos with any ease at all

Here is link to those accessories

I was going to get this camera too, but after reading more reviews and doing more reaserch, I realized that the nikon d5100 is a better buy. Although it is more expensive, it's a camera you can grow on. It's worth spending an extra few hundreds to get the camera you need and deserve. I'd suggest to wait it out a little to get the 5100. Better features= better quality photos. To see for yourself, type in on google, nikon d3100 vs nikon d5100. The winner is made pretty obvious, and you get a list of features and reasons why it's a better choice.
