How does this wireless shutter remote work?

I have a Nikon D3000. I want to get a wireless shutter remote to minamize the shaking of my camera (not that there's much shaking anyways)
Do i need to buy an additional piece or will this work? I know it will come with instructions but how does it work? Is it already programed with my camera?
The remote is usually something that screws into your shutter with a long cord and you just click the device on the end. You could also use your timer with a tripod and there will be no chance of movement.
The ML-L3 wireless remote works by sending an infrared signal to your camera. The camera has a receiver on the front of it that picks up the signal from the remote and releases the shutter.
All you need to do to use it is put the camera into remote mode (described beginning on page 55 in your manual, which is here if you do not have a copy of it: http://www.nikonusa.com/...oprint.pdf ).
One thing you should be aware of is that the ML-L3 remote only works if it is pointed directly at the front of the camera.
