Does the Opteka RC-2 Wireless Remote Control work with the Nikon D3100 DSLR?

No, the D3100 does not support any kind of wireless remote. You need a "wired" one.

Edit:
Before you buy a wired one, consider the "phottix strato 4in1" (not to be confused with the "phottix strato").It's more expensive than a normal remote shutter release, but that's because its primary purpose is that of a remote flash trigger. It has a secondary function that allows it to be used as a wired shutter release remote, and that piece of it that is hooked up to the camera can be remote controlled wirelessly by the other one.

Edit2:
Apparently it doesn't include the shutter release cable though.

No. The Opteka RC-2 emulates the Nikon infrared remote ML-L3.

You will need to get a wireless remote control that uses the wired remote shutter control port on your D3100. These require that you purchase both a transmitter and receiver. According to the D3100 brochure, the D3100 does not have the infrared receiver that was built into many of the entry-level Nikon cameras in the past.

A number of vendors have developed wireless remote releases that are advertised to emulate the functions of the Nikon wired release remotely and control the D3100 shutter release.

These include the Vivitar VIV-RC-200/D90 Wireless Remote at the link below:

and this from Amazon

There are no user reviews yet for this product - so it's hard to know if it has limitations that you should be aware of.

Opteka also makes a wired remote release that is much less expensive - it should come up on the same search at Amazon.
