How to manually change the shutter speed for Nikon D40?
I have researched this and seen where it will 'set itself' according to iso speed, but I'm trying to set my camera to ISO 1600 with a shutter speed of 1/200--HOW do I set it to that? I need step by steps because all of the other websites are not real clear? This is the exact settings I need for what I'm doing. Thanks!
Added (1). I have read the manual and it does not tell you how to change it. It is not that I'm unsatisfied with my pictures. I need the instructions on HOW to change the shutter speed.
What do you mean you have researched this? The owner's manual for your camera clearly tells you how to use your camera in manual mode. Read the owner's manual! If you don't have your owner's manual, download it from the Nikon website.
1) turn mode dial to "S"
2) set the shutter speed to 1/200th of a second by rotating the control dial
3) find the iso setting under the shooting menu and change it to ISO 1600
With the D40, you can set the iso up to 1600 but your photos would have a good amount of noise to it. The photo might have an artistic view to it but as for sharpness, not the best. The sensor in the D40 is not too good with real high iso's. Once you get to about iso 800, the Quality diminishes as you go higher.
Ows? Exact setting? Okay.
Read the manual. If you can't find your copy, download from the internet.
If you already know what settings to use, why not set to M mode?
