How to make your Nikon D40 let you take pictures without the lens on?

I'm able to remove the lens and reverse it to take a macro photo but my camera says "Lens not attached" and won't let me take a photo. How can I fix this?
Added (1). Okay, I can take the picture on manual but it comes out black, even if it's totally focused.

It is supposed to work in the Manual mode"M"
If it doesn't, call Nikon and ask them. 800. NIKON-UX
Look on page.97 of your user manual

Yes, Use Manual mode (M). Your problem now would be how to determine proper exposure level. I guess you can alway hit and miss, brute force your way into all the settings.
