How to clean a Pentax K1000?

I just received a Pentax K1000 from my school for a photography class, and I doubt it has been cleaned since it was purchased. You can see in the first roll of film I took the dirt and dust that has built up over the years. How can I do a thorough cleaning without damaging the camera? I'm not well versed in film cameras, I've been using my Nikon D5000, so I'm not sure how to clean it without damaging it.

Use the same rubber blower you have been using for your dSLR

I use a Giottos Rocket Air Blaster, under $10.

Just open the back of the K1000 and blow out all the dust. Also blow out any dust that is in the chamber behind the lens and mirror. To clean the area behind the mirror, lock the mirror up using that button on the K1000 or use the bulb shutter setting and hold open the shutter while blowing out the dust

Do NOT touch either the mirror or shutter with anything

An old trick is to open the back, take off the lens and fire the shutter a couple of times with the camera pointing first down, then up.
