How to view my RAW files on my PC?

I have Nikon D3000 & just recently began formatting my image files as RAW. Problem is now my PC will not let me view them without PS CS5 which I do not have right now & my free-trial just expired. Sadly I still use the KodakEasyShare Software to edit my images because I've been using it since I had Kodak point-n-shoot & am used to it. IS there anything else out there that's compatible with Nikon & that will let me view/edit RAW files?

Your camera should have come with software (I believe Nikon's version is Capture NX) that allows you basic functionality to view, edit, and convert RAW files.

Your camera came with software to view / edit the RAW files. It will be on one of your CDs. Download the software into your computer and you will be good to go. There are plenty of other RAW software programs on the market, but you might as well use what is with your camera for now.

Since you are using a Nikon camera I would suggest you use the Capture Software which was on the CD supplied with the camera body. That means if you look at your images by Nikon View you will be automatically linked into Capture NX2 editing software; Nikon View allows you to edit the camera settings as a first stage edit process before calling up Capture NX2 to edit the images as a second stage process.
The fact you have found the problerm of software / camera compatibility should alert you to future needs - and Nikon currently guarantee that upgraded versions of their software will be able to handle earlier generations of Nikon images. So much so that when I upgraded to a Nikon D700 recently the supplied software still handles the D100 images taken over 10 years ago.
