Please read the instructions that came with your camera before you accidentally damage it. If you don't even know how to remove the lens from a DSLR, then you have quite a bit of reading to do before you can get decent pictures from your new camera. Unless of course you are planning on using your DSLR on full auto like a lame point and shoot camera… You're not one of THOSE people are you?

Yes there's a release button, but you don't need to take the lens off until you buy a second one.

Removing the lens is just asking for dust to eventually enter you camera and eventually can get into your cameras sensor. This is NOT unique to just Nikon's, but ANY dSLR

While holding down the release button, twist the lens clockwise til the white dot on the top of the lens matches the white dot on the camera body. To mount a lens, match the dots mentioned and then twist the lens counterclockwise until it "clicks" into place.

With practice, this can be done quickly and advanced amateurs and pros can change lenses in seconds.

The lens release button is located on the right of the camera (when facing the cameras toward yourself). Twist the lens in a clockwise direction as you press and hold that button.
