How to get this photography effect?

can someone tell me how this effect is achieved?
i'm not sure if it is an editing effect or is it can be captured raw from photography.
i own a Nikon D3100 DSLR but i do not know of such advanced techniques as i'm only just self taught right now.

I assume you're talking about that reddish stripe on the left.
It looks to me like somebody accidentally opened the camera when the film was unprotected, causing that. I'm sure you can do that effect digitally with some simple gradients, though.

It's called a holga light leak effect. Today, we usually use photoshop to implement this but I have no idea how: P
