Help in purchasing a camera? - 1

I'm going to be buying a nikon d5100 within this next week.
There's one I'm looking at that includes the shoulder bag, a 4gb memory card, a 18-55mmVR lens and a 55-300mmVR lens going for 1200 dollars. Is that a deal? What are the essential lenses for this nikon?
There's another one going for 850 dollars including the 18-55 kit lens. With a coupon for 200 dollars of a 70-300 lens and 150 off a 55-300 with purchase of the camera.
I'd probably buy extra warranty on top of both of these cameras, but which works out at the better deal?
Is it worth buying the first one with the bag, dvd, guide and memory card?
Are they all essentials? Would it be cheaper to buy them separately?
Which lenses are the best? I'm going to be taking pictures of practically everything to start with. A lot of children, landscapes, and portraits.
Please help.
Thank you.

Added (1). I'm really trying to be as realistic as I can with money because I saved 800 dollars and my dad is covering the rest.

Go for the Nikon D3100 or the D5100 i use both but prefer the D3100 Lenses go for the 55-300 with macro rather than the 70-300

It's actually a good deal but check the actual price of the 70-300mm lens first then compare the total cost to what you can get at http://bhphotovideo.com/...ovideo.com. It's a very trustworthy site. If you can say the same to where you saw that deal you can go on with it.

Thats a good deal, but on amazon you can the camera with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens for cheaper. You can check it out here:

http://www.amazon.com/...004V4IWKG/

And if you want to go with a bundle package deal than there's one on there too, its a good deal. It offers Nikon D5100 16.2 MP Digital SLR Camera & 18-55mm G VR DX AF-S Zoom Lens with 55-300mm VR Lens + 32GB Card + Case + (2) Filters + Remote + Tripod + Cleaning Kit. Take a look for price details etc:

The camera choice is great btw and the deals i've mentioned are good too if you think they are suitable for you than i'd say definitely go with them because they're for a little cheaper and offer more.

You have quite a big budget and either camera would very an excellent choice.
However, with your budget I would go with the d5100 with the 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses.
The d5100 also has a hi res LCD screen which makes it easier to check your photos.

Buying the camera on its own or with the kit 18-55mm lens would be the best option because retailers tend to throw in bundles, such as bags memory cards etc just to clear excess stock whilst upping the price slightly. Great, if you need the extra equipment but you may be able to purchase these things cheaper elsewhere.

Well I think you're wasting money buying a telephoto zoom, you're not going to need either of those lenses. Your better off buying the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f1.8G, it's cheaper and more suited for the type of photograph you'll be taking. As you can see there's no such thing as an essential lens, there are just lenses that are essential for certain jobs. This way you'll probably walk out with $200 change in your pocket which you can invest towards lighting or tripod as and when needed.

Extended warranty? Not really particularly useful, if a camera goes wrong it's usually within the first twelve months. Only buy extra warranty if it covers theft and accidental damage.
